Sourdough & Poolish

At Bute Bread School, we are passionate about breadmaking and we take great pride in teaching our customers to bake the highest quality bread possible. To achieve this, we employ two different methods in our breadmaking process. The first is called “Poolish”, which is a slightly less complicated method that still produces delicious results. With this method, you won’t have to maintain a sourdough starter, which can be a bit time-consuming. However, it’s important to note that the bread won’t have the characteristic sourdough flavour that many people love. That’s why we also teach the method that includes the use of sourdough starter. This requires a bit more effort and attention to detail, but it results in a bread with a distinctive tangy flavour that is hard to resist. Whichever method you choose to use in your baking career, we’re here to guide you through the process and help you bake bread that you’ll be proud to share with your family and friends.
